How to analysis a water damaged iPhone step by step?

Like the topic related, usually we will open the Open WUXINJI software to check iPhone schematic diagram, find the normal current value , because it is a great possibility that there exist a short circuit which caused the abnormal fault.

First step we do is to dissemble iPhone 6 by phone opening tools, connect iPhone motherboard to DC power supply, and then press iPhone power button, the current stuck on 750MA.

Measure the each circuit output for iPhone power IC with UNI-T UT81C Scope Digital Multimeters, we don't see any short circuits.

Actually, for this problem, the best way is rosin method.

Apply some rosin on iPhone motherboard, and then use PPD 861D Plus hot air rework station to smoke the iPhone motherboard until it turns white. Supply power and boot it, after a while, do the same thing for several times. Then you will find the short circuit component is hot and discolored.

Remove capacitor C0616 with Precision Titanium Alloy Tweezers, supply power and boot it, now the current shows normal, and everything goes well.

Some capacitors are not in power, its resistance is normal, but in the case of power-adding, it's going to leak.

The problem still exist, but we need to check the capacitor to confirm the sources fault, we will continue the problem next time.

Two Steps for iPhone 7 turning on failure

Usually when we met the iPhone 7 turning on failure ,we will do it by individ two steps, one for the surface ,one for motherboard, then we can find the sources fault and solve it totally, okay, let us start our first step.

• Step One: Dignosing

1. Disassemble the iPhone 7 and disconnect the battery
2. Connect the iPhone 7 to the DC power Tsupply, it reads and stops at 350mA, which is abnormal, indicating that the iPhone 7 circuit board is short circuited.
3. Disconnect the power supply and take out the logic board. Run diode measurements on capacitors around power IC one by one. All the values are normal except  C1823 – It displays 0, which indicates that C1823 is short-circuited. From the schematics, we can see that C1823 is the filter capacitor of PP1V8-SDRAM, and it is directly connected to CPU SDRAM.
4. Disconnect the DC power supply and take out the iPhone 7 circuit board.
5. Measure diode on capacitors around iPhone 7 power IC one by one. Besides c1823 shows 0, all values are normal, which indicates c1823 short circuit. 
6. From the WUXINJI schematic diagram, we can see that c1823 is a pp1v8-sdram filter capacitor, which is directly connected to the iPhone 7 CPU, SDRAM.

What the above step is dignosing step, we can know the fault value and where happens the fault, the next we will disassemble it and fix it.

• Step Two: Repairing

1. Put the iPhone 7 motherboard to PCB repair holder, heat the shield cover with QUICK 861DW hot air rework station.
2. Use CNC chip grinding machine to remove the CPU SDRAM. 
3. After grinding, Put iPhone 7 motherboard to PCB holder and clean with a PCB cleaner, remove the black adhesive with knife. 
4. Apply some BGA solder paste to the weld plate. Align the new SDRAM to the right position, and then weld it with a hot air gun. 
5. After cooling for 5 minutes, clean thoroughly with PCB cleaner.
6 Connect iPhone 7 with DC Power Supply
7 Use a precision tweezer to trigger the power on system by shorting the Pin 13 of J4504 to the ground. the current should be normal this time.
8  Assemble the iPhone 7 motherboard and buckle the display assembly. 
9 Connect iPhone 7 to the computer, then press the power button and volume down at the same time to enter into DFU mode. 
10 Restore the iPhone via iTunes, then insert the SIM card and activate the iPhone 7.

Some Tips for iPhone 6 Boot Failure and Electricity Leakage

Usually the boot failure may be caused by some components, but we can't judge from its surface. The repaired phone happens boot failure and the attached file shows there exist leakage, so we doubt there exist one of charge components occurred fault, we have to disassemble it.

(Notes: the PP_BATT_VCC is the most sources fault)

-If iPhone gets blue screen rebooting or red screen rebooting, it is means the abnormal work of NAND parts, you can try to weld U0301, if still not work then restall or replace the iPhone 6 NAND chip.

-If the boot is not responding, check whether the main power of U1401 output is normal. If abnormal, replace U1401, if there is main power output, replace the power U1201.

-If the iPhone 6 set at around 100 Ma does not boot, connect with computer online, if it cannot recognize the hardware, it means the iPhone 6 CPU does not work, try to reinstall or replace the U1202, if you can recognize the hardware, restore to see what error, if it's 4005/4014/9/14/40, basically CPU or NAND problems, reinstall or replace the NAND. The compass IC damage will reports error 4013, replace the compass IC will solve the problem.

-If the iPhone 6 doesn't turn on because of water damage, clean and weld the small inductance and resistance around CPU and power IC, many small resistors or inductors can be corroded and damaged, they are hard to see by eys, you can use a VGA 7-45X Trinocular Stereo Microscope microscope to check and solder.

-If it's a white apple keeps on the screen, the Ace assistant will see if it can read the information of the phone. If we can read the information, it will show that it can boot. The problem is in the display and touch part. The touch IC--U2402 U2401 can be reinstalled or replaced.

The fingerprint power supply schematic diagram is as follows:

The iPhone power IC output PP3V0_MESA(3.0V) PP1V8_MESA(1.8V) respectively through inductance FL3803 and FL3801, next send it to interface J3801; the iPhone power supply IC-- U3702 output PP16V0_MESA(16.0V), after inductance FL3802 delivers to the interface J3801.

If these three circuits power supply is abnormal, it will cause iPhone fingerprint failure. In order to fix it, you can check the short connection FL3803, FL3801 and FL3802, Use Precision Titanium Alloy Tweezers to replace the U3702.

iPhone 7/7P home button repair guide

The home button power supply schematic diagram is as follows:

The power supply pipe U3801 output PP2V75_MAMBA(275V) to J3801, iPhone power IC output PP1V8_TOUCH(1.8V) , through resistance R3805, final to J38011.

If these two circuit power supply is abnormal, it will cause iPhone home button failure. For repairing this problem, check short connection R3805, and then you can replace the U3801 or disassemble the U3801, and then use PPD 861D Plus hot air rework station to weld the jump wire from C3813 to C3823.

How to Solve iPhone 6 Fingerprint Failure?

Fault Description: Water damaged caused the fingerprint fault.

Possibility sources reason: U1503 and J2118 R2160 caused the corresponding fault.

If the U1503 cause the voltage abnormal, maybe it will cause the fingerprint fault, more if the J2118 cooperating with R2160 caused the CPU fault, it also can cause the fault. So We need to disassemble it and find the sources fault.

During our testing, we found the FL2156 IC also happens fault, it was been corrode which caused the short circuit, so we should disassemble it carefully. Ok, let us start our final checking and fixing. 

One circuit is U2100 output 1.8V voltage through FL2133 to the interface J2118, U2100 and FL2133 are easy to damage, it can be borrowed from another 1.8V voltage by connecting jumper wire to capacitor C2184. In addition, there is a 3.0V to be sent to the J2118 by FL2119, and FL2119 is easy to corrode and damage the fingerprint identification failure. The abnormal power supply of 1.8V and 3.0V will cause failure to open the fingerprint. These two voltages can be measured at the power on moment. U2100 is easy to damage which will cause the failure to open fingerprint function, short connection with jumper wire can be used.

If iPhone 6 fails to open fingerprint, first you need to use Fluke 15B+ Digital Multimeter to test whether the above mentioned voltage are normal, if several voltage are normal, then test  if there is the situation of no voltage on iPhone 6 base, check if the corresponding resistance or inductance circuit get corroded or broken!

How to check and solve iPhone 6S No Backlight ?

Aiming to share a experience about phone repair skill. Most of the iPhone backlight fault was caused by the PP_LCM_CAT1 and PP_LCM_BL_CAT2, one of them happens failure, it will cause the backlight fault.

8. Use a digital multimeter to test Pin C12 value (u3101 audio IC). The resistance value is swinging.



9. Take out WUXINJI schematic diagram for reference. The signal of the pin: 12s-ap-to-codec-mclk C12. The signal and CPU pass through the resistance r1103.

10. Scrape the insulation varnish off the copper wire connecting pin C12 and resistor R1103. Solder tins and then solder the 0.02mm copper wire.

11. Apply some UV curable solder mast to the soldered copper wire, place logic board UV drying lamp for 15 minutes.

12. Take the BGA reballing stencil to reball the iPhone 7 audio IC

13. Some BGA solder paste is injected into the weld plate. Then the audio IC at the right place, blow it with a hot air rework station at 280 degrees

14. Once the logic board is cool enough, use the PCB cleaner to clean it.

15. Assemble the phone and test.

16. The touch function and the recording function are restored to normal.

Completely no signal
